Recently, as in the past few years, the idea of applying game concepts or other behaviorally persuasive methodologies to other applications have been an increasingly hot topic. While I do see the potential values in it, I have yet to see and personally benefit from them.
Following this article, I immediately signed up for 750words, since I have wanted to improve my writing skills for a while now. But being a reluctant writer, I could write at most 400’ish words at once. Not able to even fulfill the word requirement on the first day, I lost my little bit of motivation to continue. It could be my own inertia to change, but isn’t the app supposed to motivate me or persuade me to change?
